Robert Nesch, owner of the Pittsburg Vitrified Brick
Company at 1608 N. Catalpa, purchased the Pittsburg Paving
Brick Company in about 1902. He changed the name to the
Pittsburg Sewer and Conduit Pipe Company and began making
clay pipes. Realizing that running two different operations
was expensive and very tasking on him personally, he
sold the pipe company to Walter S. Dickey who was the
owner of the Dickey Company in Kansas City. The Pittsburg
Vitrified Brick Company paved most of the city and supplied
bricks for most of the buildings built in town.
