D. P. Benelli started his jewelry and optometrist business in Frontenac in 1902, moving it to Pittsburg in 1914 locating it at 217 N. Broadway in a building that had been built and occupied by George Killiam also a jeweler. Benelli moved his business to 311 N. Broadway in 1927 with his sons operating in this location for many years. His grandson, Bud Benelli, continues in the family business and recently opened a new store in the Stilwell Hotel after his store at 720 N. Broadway was destroyed by a fire in May 2011.
In 1920 D. P. Benelli purchased the old Seth Thomas street clock, now located in Immigrant Park, from Killiam and put it in front of his store at 217 N. Broadway. The clock, of only four known to exist in the U.S., was originally in front of Killiam's Jewelry store near Fourth and Broadway. In 1927, the clock was moved to Benelli's new location at 311 N. Broadway where it stood until the mid 200's The clock is now located in Immigrant Park at Second and Broadway.
