Lewis Love Hollinger was born in 1857 in Sandusky Co., Ohio to John and Susan Hollinger. He came to Southeast Kansas around 1885 where was living with McCune banker I. K. Vance. He married Florence Thompson, of McCune in on Thanksgiving 1885 and moved to Pittsburg soon after where started the short lived newspaper The Pittsburg Advance. After the paper folded he became a school teacher at the East Pittsburg School. In the 9 August 1888 issue of The Pittsburg Headlight it mentions that L. L. Hollinger would be moving his family to Cherokee where to be principal of the school. By August of 1889 though he had quit teaching and opened his grocery store at 405 N. Broadway, which he operated with his wife. They had 3 children, twins Claude and Maude born in 1886 and Mertroe born in 1897. Besides being a teacher and a grocer L. L. Hollinger was also very active in the Prohibition Party of Kansas and his wife was a member of the W. C. T. U. while living in Pittsburg. Lewis Hollinger is listed in the 1900 Federal Census for Pittsburg but is not listed in the 1901 Pittsburg city directory. So sometime between 1900 and 1901 he closed his store and and moved to Cornelius, OR where he is listed in the 1910 Federal Census as selling real estate. By 1920 he and his family were living in Long Beach, California. Lewis died 21 Aug 1924 his obituary mentioning that he was a retired furniture dealer. His wife, Florence died 23 Sept. 1942. Both are buried in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Long Beach, CA.
